Details
Introductory workshops run for around 3-3.5 hours, usually on Saturday mornings. The sessions are in person in the Cloud Water Zen Centre (unless otherwise stated).
The main focus for each session is to cover the fundamentals and basics of Zen teaching and practice. This will include a brief outline of basic Zen Buddhist principles, a review of posture for meditation practice and finding a comfortable way to sit (cushion, bench or chair) and a chance to try out zazen (Zen meditation). We’ll also have time for tea, conversation, and some Q and A along the way. The session will leave everyone with a good, basic sense of what Zen practice is about and then people can take it from there.
All the mats and cushions needed for the day are provided (as well as chairs for those who need them). Please wear loose, comfortable clothing suitable for sitting on the floor.
As with everything at the Zen Centre, there is no fee for the workshops. However, as the Centre relies on donations to cover expenses, we appreciate your donation. The suggested amount is £20 (but people are welcome to adjust to their circumstances if need be). Donations are very welcome and help us to maintain the centre and keep everything as affordable as possible for everyone. Donations can be made directly into the Zen Centre bank account or with cash on the day. Please get in touch for more details.
